Redcar Properties invests in urban commercial real estate in Los Angeles by acquiring underperforming properties in high growth urban neighborhoods and adding value through specialized redevelopment.
Redcar’s Santa Monica office doubles as a green building and interior showcase for prospective clients. Their showrooms feature unique custom-made tables, chairs and benches from fallen trees and/or re-purposed wood obtained from their construction sites. The one-of-a-kind pieces are custom-made onsite by one of their tenants. To foster healthy indoor air quality, they pose large succulent plants and trees office-wide, as well as a Greenhouse garden to provide water-saving plants to their properties and tenants.
Redcar’s office recently completed the largest solar panel installation in Santa Monica. They performed a comprehensive lighting retrofit replacing halogens, CFL, and T12 fluorescent tubes with LED lights facility-wide saving over 4,400 kWh annually. With the addition of ample skylights and occupancy sensors, the building uses minimal energy for artificial lighting. To be kinder to the earth, Redcar procures eco-friendly cleaners made by sustainable providers. The employee kitchen is equipped with Energy Star® appliances and reusable food ware. The Green Business Program staff provided employee training on separating materials, and assistance with setting up their zero waste station.
Redcar also completed a carbon footprint calculator to determine their greenhouse gas emissions. They also registered with FlexAlert.org to receive notifications to help reduce energy demands during peak demand periods.
Redcar is committed to making responsible environmental decisions and recognizes there are a variety of environmental, social and economic implications to all of the decisions it makes. As part of this commitment, Redcar is a signatory of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (“UNPRI)”, the world’s leading proponent of responsible investment.
