This goes beyond the hiking, biking and surfing adventures embraced by the brand, as they became committed stewards of our planet and earned their green business certification at their HQ in Santa Monica. Being able to emulate corporate values on a national level has always been at the heart of every initiative. That’s why the idea of partnering with One Tree Planted stood out to WWG and together this year they rolled out the Rent One, Get One Tree campaign at all StorQuest stores nationwide. For every storage unit rented, one tree is planted in an at-risk growth area within the communities they serve. WWG’s staff led green team has had some noteworthy accomplishments they have incorporated into their employee handbook. These include:
- Creating a Sustainable Purchasing Policy committing to purchase recycled paper products containing up to 100% post-consumer materials. This included eliminating a Keurig coffee machines using disposable coffee pods in the main office.
- Office-wide LED lighting retrofit; replacing over 40 incandescent bulbs, fluorescent and incandescent bulbs; resulting in 9,607 kWh and $1825 estimated annual savings.
- Phasing out toxic cleaners; replacing with EPA Safer Choice rated Staples Sustainable Earth line.
